about
Whatever this song means, I haven't figured it out yet. Sometimes it feels like I never will. I wrote it nearly 25 years ago, and have recorded it several ways. This is the slowest it's ever been done. I'm about to record an acoustic up-tempo version. Maybe I'll understand it more after that.

RIVER ROLL LYRICS
Yesterday I read a thriller
Where it said that love’s a killer on parole
Underneath the tree a lady
Says it always seems too shady when you stroll
You gotta take what you are given
Hold onto your children
Then you gotta roll you river, roll you river, roll you river, roll you river
river roll
It could be the perfect answer
Livin’ with a famous dancer you control
But if you suffer double vision
Dealin’ with her indecision that’s the toll
You gotta find what you are missin’
Leave where you are livin’
Then you gotta roll you river, roll you river, roll you river, river roll,
roll you river, river roll
Yeah you gotta etc
She may learn to suffer sweetly
Lose her head and show completely what you stole
Maybe you can skip a season
Indicate a better reason for your goal
You gotta see where you are walkin’
Stop all of the talkin’
The you gotta roll you river, roll you river, roll you river, roll you river,
river roll,
Yeah you gotta roll you river, river roll.
